Daisy Edgar-Jones, Maura Tierny and Anthony Ramos in other things before but this was my first exposure to Glen Powell. I enjoyed his performance. He has a lot of screen charisma. It was directed by Lee Isaac Chung, who also directed Minari.
It was an action flick with good special effects but also had central characters with heart and was about something important in the times we’re living in (the devastation caused by climate change, in this case, intensifying and more frequent tornadoes). I didn’t believe for a minute though that Tyler (Glen Powell) could really anchor his truck into the ground against a tornado. But this was a popcorn action flick so it doesn’t really matter whether the science is all technically accurate.
This movie did well at the box office domestically on its first weekend. But then the next weekend it got largely replaced by Deadpool & Wolverine on number of screens. It was on so few screens by its second week that it’s VOD streaming release date was moved up to Aug 13! That is fast! It only opened on July 19. If you want to see it though, this is the kind of movie that is better on a big screen.
