The structure of Kinds of Kindness sounds like Cloud Atlas, one of my favorite books/movies, and I think Yorgos Lanthimos is a genius. I can’t wait to see it!
I haven’t seen or read Cloud Atlas. I’ll put it on my long list of movies to catch up with. The stories in Kinds of Kindness are connected thematically.
I have a membership at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in downtown Brooklyn. It’s a performing arts center that also has four screening rooms and they screen a lot of indie and foreign films. My membership means I can see movies for $8 instead of the regular price of $16. In the fall, they stage their Next Wave Festival, which is a series of cutting edge new plays, music, dance, performance art. This year they’re opening with a new musical based on the cult film, SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED. I’ve never seen the movie so I ordered the DVD on Amazon because the musical version sounds interesting. Have you seen that movie?
My other local movie theater is right in my neighborhood (20 blocks away). It screens more mainstream Hollywood movies but also some indies. I saw Maxxine there. They have eight screening rooms and the senior price is $7.
It is really something to be living in NYC and have access to all of these movies in a theater for $7 and $8. In Manhattan, many movie theaters charge over $20 now. At that price, I would not be going out to the movies this much.
