Chicos is a nice store, but the attitudes you're talking about are Bergdorf kind of people. And I say that because Chicos and Loft are where almost ALL of my over 35 friends shop for work clothes or business casual clothing.
It's not just that Chico's is a nice store, it's that THIS Chico's is a nice store in a very snooty neighborhood. That's why I think some of the customers might be...challenging. SM mentioned one guy who makes the store stay open specifically for him so he could come in and buy between $6K-9K worth of clothes for HIS employees (I should find out what business he owns) and then will make the store stay open late again so he can bring in the three ladies in his life (wife, daughter, aunt) and let them have a private shopping spree.
I also think the customers that want someone to shop for them will naturally gravitate to the Manager, because she has 'dressed' them before. This is something you can reach for, not expect to do on Day 1.

I would give it a try. You aren't on unemployment that will stop if you get a job. You shouldn't turn down THIS job because of a job you MIGHT get in the future, so I would stop worrying about your 2nd part time job before you even accept this first one, yes? ; )

Is your gut telling you this is bad or is your guy happier sitting at home than possibly standing at Chicos? 10-15 hours a week could be 3 hour shifts, is that something your feet and your back could handle?
Honestly at this point, I'm thinking why didn't I get into a job back in my early 20s that would've allowed me to be retired by now? A taste of freedom (from working) was a very bad thing for me. The shifts at Chico's are 5 hours--you're there either 10:00 AM-3:00 PM or 2:00 PM-7:00 PM, so it would be 5 hours straight on my feet with, I'm assuming, some kind of short break in between since it's illegal in Ohio (and everywhere?) to work more than 4 hours without at least a 15 minute break.
As I said, my "gut" is altering between "take the job already! You need INCOME!" and "Ugh...retail. And being back on your feet for hours". Truly conflicted about this.
