Dad finally retired after his workplace--Carquest--was bought out by Advanced Auto and the store he worked at closed. The town already had an Advance Auto store; half of Dad's co-workers went to another Carquest while the other half, including Dad, went to the AA in the same town. The AA was run by an absolutely horrible manager...Dad lasted 2 months there and after getting zero recognition for the many, many things he did well and getting pooped on for some ridiculously minor things he did "wrong" (like wearing the wrong color shoes--he had black tennis shoes on and they'd been told to wear navy tennis shoes), he quit. I was all for that.
