A small, point, electric on-demand water heater is a nice option if there isn't a constant need for hot water, like in a home for showers and such. We have one in one of the halls at our church. No dishwasher, so I'm not sure how well they work with them. We usually rinse/wash a few items by hand.

Since someone has to come in and fix the dishwasher, might as well get the point water heater, too.
