- Local Boys - Four guys, just trying to enjoy a summer of surfing, deal with a rival surf group, the return of a surf legend and the troubled younger brother of the main character. I'm not sure this ever made it to the big screen...I bought it a while back because the main character is played by Eric Christian Olsen, who I loved on NCIS: LA. The surf legend is played by Mark Harmon; it amused me every time ECO and MH shared screen time and were NOT Deeks and Gibbs <g>. The movie is OK, nothing special, but the scenery is stunning and the surfing shots amazing. A cute summer movie that doesn't require any thought
- Into the Blue - All style, no substance. Paul Walker is a dude who's living in the Caribbean, loves to dive and is dating Jessica Alba (or her character, at least). While on a dive with his buddy (played by Scott Caan), he finds a sunken ship...and a plane full of bricks of cocaine. From there, stuff happens that's mostly unbelievable. Another movie you watch for the pretty scenery and the fantastic dive shots. Amusingly, the villain is played by Josh Brolin, and one of his henchman is played by Tyrese...honestly, the cast seems to have been selected more for their beauty and being buzz-worthy than their acting skills.
- Mercy- I'm positive this one never made it to the big screen, as it's a vanity project written by, directed by, and starring Scott Caan (I went through a Scott Caan phase at one point...I'm mostly over it now <g>). Wildly successful romance writer Johnny, played by Caan, falls for a merciless critic...named Mercy. The plot is paper thin and the main point seems to be to tell a story in the artsiest way possible (out of sequence, certain scenes filmed in not quite black and white to evoke a mood, etc.). A movie only Scott Caan fans would love, IMO, though it's fun that James Caan played Johnny's dad in a few scenes. Nothing like having an award winning actor as your father to appear in your vanity projects!
The Brothers Grimm - A dark comedy about two brothers, played by Mark Ruffalo and Adrian Brody (I went through an Adrian Brody phase too <g>) planning one last con to scam a filthy rich young heiress out of her fortune. This is one of the rare moments for me where the dark comedy actually works, and the ending is gut-wrenching, but I fell asleep during the middle scenes.
