abruptly quit so the writers had to scramble for his exit story. I’m glad he wasn’t killed off because Shonda went that route far too often and got HEAVY criticism for it.

It’s been a bit since I watched that episode but IIRC, due to the mental exhaustion he declined to film goodbye scenes but agreed to do the voiceover.
