So, the CA Senate is debating the passage of a bill SB 1414 that would enhance penalties on individuals who sex traffic youth.
The author (Shannon Grove, R, Bakersfield) shared that she was aware of cases where the men were buying children's lingerie.
WTFFFFFF??????
Now, the spate of R and D co-authors are talking about opposition to the bill...but when I looked at the previous votes, they were all nearly unanimous. I think they could be talking about the orgs opposing this (WTF ACLU??) that caused it to be watered-down. Shame, shame.
Either way - what freaking century are we in that this is still brushed aside? Why are some people OK with just a fine??? The trauma inflicted on these children - who are usually poor and isolated - lasts a lifetime and is a cost to our entire society.
Anyhoo...just had to get that out.
Because I think are all on the same page on this issue, I thought it was OK to put it here. This is not a partisan issue.
