anthologies at least have the same feel/style/whatever, but True Detective S2 felt like a completely different show all together, which I think is why it had such backlash.
The season is as sprawling as the city it takes place in itself. The cast was fantastic, other than Vince Vaughn who annoys me no matter what. SO many actors from shows I love popped up.
We have:
Jon Lindstrom! (Ryan Chamberlain is one of my all time favourite villains in any medium)
Rick Springfield
Yara Martinez, who played Luisa (who I loved) on Jane the Virgin
Michael Hyatt, Rebecca's therapist on Crazy Ex Girlfriend
Taylor Kitsch (who was so much hotter here than on) Friday Night Lights
James Frain, Franklin Mott on True Blood
Christian Campbell
Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell were great, of course.
The good out of the way...
As I said, it was sprawling, and I'm not sure I could fully explain the plot to anyone. It was still well done, but not as compelling as S1. I'm glad I watched it (especially for all the actors), but if it had been the first season, I'm not sure I would have checked out S2. I'm also kinda...not happy with some moments in the last two episodes, though it was done well and does make narrative sense despite me not liking it :P I mean, some really beautiful imagery.
Looking forward to S3, and of course, Night Country.
