have a smaller bust or a defined waist if you have bigger hips. And don't get me started on how the sizing is not the same even with the same brand/store. It's a 12 here, a 14 or even a 16 depending on where in the stack the fabric was when it was cut. Or a medium or large. UGH! Give me some consistency!!
The sizes in my closet range from a small (a sweater from Target) to an 18W. Most of my clothes are a 14 or a 16 for the bottoms and a medium or large for the top, depending on the cut. I learned long ago that many of us overweight women think we're "hiding" our size by wearing super loose clothing but really what we should be doing is wearing something form fitting but not outright tight.
The other day, I began my annual search for a new Easter outfit. Most of the time, I don't care about having new clothes...the two exceptions is I usually like getting one new top for a vacation that involves leaving the state, and I like a new dress or skirt/top for Easter thanks to years of Mom always insisting we all have new outfits for Easter.
Shoes another issue I have. I'm a 7 12/ Wide. The selection of Wides is limited in my area especially for anything other than sneakers it seems. I've tried online but it seems like it's a flat or a tall heel. And I really prefer to try a shoe on before buying. Sometimes their return policies aren't very good either. I want a heel but it has to be on the small side as I have bad ankles from spraining them so much plus you add in bunions.
10W here...I *have* to try on shoes. My heel is a bit narrow for a wide size, but the base of my toes is almost wider than a traditional wide. There's a lot of shoes I step out of when I walk. I've finally reached the age where I almost CAN'T walk in heels--it's not about comfort for me, it's about balance--so I hear you about wanting something in between flat and 4" stiletto heels.
By the end of last summer, several of my pairs of sandals were starting to look too raggedy to wear in public. Which is a shame because sandals I like are the hardest footwear for me to find, partly because there's not many styles made for wide feet and partly because I don't like flip flops, even the "dressy" ones (I can't stand the feeling of something between my toes).
