… the once-a-month celebration for all birthdays that month. Which … isn’t a birthday party. It’s cake. And then there are the inevitable disagreements about what cake and what time, and people actually get hurt feelings if boss doesn’t show (even though it is not boss’ birthday month) and other petty crap that makes me want to yell “grow up!”
I don’t like birthday attention much, and I definitely don’t want it from people I’m not close to. And I resent having to reciprocate it for virtual strangers. If you are my friend, I will treat you right on your birthday, but I don’t want my employer in my personal life as a general matter.
