Toronto also has a really signficant Jamaican population and it's a very influential culture here.
I think the "why" matters when the score is so low and the issue people seemed to have with this movie was the fact that it was... just a straight biopic and they thought Marley deserved better. But it's not incompetent, it's not boring. It's certainly interesting. I do think it's helpful to know maybe a bit about what was going on in 1976 in Jamaica. But apparently the attempted assasignation scene was pretty accurate. A lot of people who were in the Wailers, and his wife, as still alive to give details.
Anyway. I find a lot of his music comforting. And it was a nice way to spend a cold afternoon.
