It's largely upper middle and upper class and yet:
* Sunday - the now-closed Cabana (pool) Club right across the park from us had a fire. I don't know for certain what caused it, but I suspect squatters.
* Yesterday, a SWAT crew came to our complex and LW and M had to shelter in place for two hours. It was right across from us. L saw someone being hauled out of his townhome with his hands on his head. Still nothing in the news or SacPD website about what this was about.
* Last night, someone was killed in a driveby shooting right on the major street where Nugget is (Florin Road). Likely an innocent bystander but who knows.
Before someone claims this is about "rising crime", that would be patently false. Crime has been falling and is still far below the highs of the 80s and 90s. I will not respond to any posts with that lazy thinking. Look up the data.
So we have NO clue why this is happening. NONE. We love our neighborhood and I don't see us moving away - besides the neighborhood just east of us is actually far higher crime (always has been) and the neighborhood just north of us does not have the beautiful walkability, open spaces, and birding opportunities that we get in Pocket/Greenhaven.
Hopefully, this is something temporary, but it's concerning.
