*slash* rehabilitation center. It was...weird. NOT because of the setting, although I don't love being in nursing homes (this one was one of the nicer ones I've visited) but because of the circumstances. I've not talked to this former co-worker ("P") in easily 20 years, but one of the two co-workers I'm still good friends with and see regularly ("J") has been keeping in touch with P via Facebook and an occasional phone call. P has some sort of...condition that J couldn't explain to me, something about swelling in her legs and needing chemotherapy (but it's not cancer). She was in the hospital last year for over 80 days and has been in three different rehab places since just before Christmas. J wanted to go visit P in person, and I guess he wanted company. It's almost a two hour drive from his home (a one hour drive for me); he picked me up at a McDonald's that was on the way. I thought we'd only be there maybe an hour? But instead, when we first got there, P was asleep, so we waited about 20 minutes for her to awaken (we waited in another room--we're not creepers). Then when we tried to leave after just over two hours, P insisted we stay, so we stayed another 30 minutes, until visiting hours were...well, not exactly over, but visitors were encouraged to leave. Then after the nursing home, we hit a local Cabela's because Dad asked me to check there for something he wanted, and J loves a good Cabela's <g>. I left my house at 12:45 and didn't get home till almost 7:00.
