but the rest of the island seems to have weathered everything pretty well. I was so sure all the restaurants and stores and hotels would be understaffed but they were surprisingly pretty well staffed. We went to Kauai in January 2022 and everything was understaffed. It was difficult going to restaurants as everything was already booked for reservations months in advance or the waits were super long or hours were so limited. We didn’t have any issues with Maui restaurant's and ate at some really cool places. We just made sure to be patient and treat everyone with kindness and compassion and also to tip well.

If you are interested in Costa Rica, I recommend using one of the online travel agents/consultants. We used one and he literally planned everything that we wanted. We just told him where we wanted to go, what we wanted to do and he gave us options for all of it and he even planned drivers for us to get around. And it was surprisingly not expensive! Send me a message if you want more details.

Bali is also on our list for someday!
