It put a nice, wet layer on the road to freeze. One thing that frustrates me: our county used to be pretty good about keeping roads clear. That is no longer the case. I spent most of my time on the road yesterday stuck in Kirtland, which is in Lake County. As soon as I cleared the traffic jam, the road was basically wet and just a little slick (as opposed to the solid ice I'd been driving on). And then as soon as I crossed the county line into my county, the roads were covered except for tire tracks left by other drivers.
I still don't know *exactly* why Dad went out at all yesterday. He told me a little more last night...he started off at the post office, mailing some bills (he still writes checks for most of his bills, and he insists on writing out the check the day he gets his bill in the mail, as opposed to waiting till closer to the due date). I inwardly screamed when he told me he thought the roads were "a little dicey" and questioned why he went out but continued on to Walmart anyways. Apparently, he needed toilet paper (yes, we were down to our last full roll...which would've lasted us several days, if not the week) and hush puppy mix. Because it was apparently crucial that he get hush puppy mix for the one time a month he decides to deep fry some hush puppies.
Also, the damage to his back bumper was worse than he reported. This morning, he was out in the garage, on his back, trying to put the bumper back ON his car. I hope the damage was contained to the bumper and didn't affect his tail lights.
