my question, I thought "Platform shoes!". Bff is the youngest of 7; several of her siblings were teens or young adults in the 1970s. Bff talks fondly of a pair of platform shoes one of her brothers had (her family tends to be on the short side). If I could find a pair of platform shoes at Goodwill, that would be perfect...except these days, things you used to give to Goodwill or sell at garage sales for a quarter are now "vintage" and commanding high prices. A few weeks ago, I was at a craft show that also had a "vintage" clothing sale. T-shirts from the 1990s--and some of them looked it--were selling for $40. Makes me wish I'd saved some of my older clothes, but the stuff I wore in the 1990s, I either threw out, gave away or am still wearing :-)
