I tried to watch UK Ghosts last year (on Paramount maybe? Possibly Amazon?) and I just didn't care for it. I think I got to the end of the second season and I just didn't really connect with any of the characters. I too find the caveman annoying and the overly cheery woman from Georgian times (I think?).

I haven't even watched all of the most recent season of US Ghosts, it's on my list, but I just don't really care about the UK one regardless of how it came first.
