No projects that use glitter. EVER.

Oops.

Even as a little girly girl who loved anything bright and sparkly, glitter annoyed me. There's a common(ish) saying that glitter is the herpes of the craft world: it spreads everywhere and is nearly impossible to totally get rid of. About 17-18 years or so ago, I bought Mom a poinsettia with glitter on the red leaves*. I brought it into the house via the door that connects the garage to the kitchen...to this day, if you look closely enough, you can see a few specks of red glitter in the groove where the door rests. Years later, I bought some gorgeous silver wrapping paper festooned with white polar bears wearing adorable caps and scarves...made of turquoise glitter. Look closely in the seam in the middle of the table (where it can be pulled apart so extra leaves can be added) and you might spy a speck of turquoise glitter.

* I was yesterday years old when I found out the (traditionally) red part of a poinsettia is not, in fact, the flower but is instead modified leaves called "bracts". The round cluster in the center is the actual flower.

Anyways...I ran across this Christmas project on Pinterest [link] Now I know better than to add glitter to the outside of an ornament--we have ornaments from the 1960s that were adorned with glitter and which still "shed" a teeny bit--but glitter on the inside? That might work. Except either the company no longer makes the glitter coat adhesive (yes, I know there's glue now with the glitter already in it) or everyone is out of it, and the clear gel glue I bought was too thick and didn't spread so on my first try at a blue ombré ornament, I got what looks to be a solid blue ornament with teeny swathes of slightly lighter glue that look less like ombré and more like a factory error. On my second try, I used Mod Podge but got it so thick, it still looks a bit milky and the glitter inside (pinks this time) is barely visible and certainly not glittery.

And then I knocked a tiny pot of glitter over.

Now there's glitter on the table, glitter on the floor, glitter on my hands, glitter on my hair, and there might be a touch of glitter on Leo since he begged me for a head rub shortly after the glitter escape. But hey, at least the color nicely complements the turquoise glitter that was already there.
