<deep breath> So, I've been sick.
Looking at my calendar, this all started the weekend of 10/14. I had what felt like a minor cold or a case of allergies, and since I've always had allergies, and I live in an area rife with allergens, I thought noting of it. Then Monday, I got nauseas and I wasn't able to hold anything down. I'm a diabetic and since I wasn't able to swallow my oral meds, I went to get checked out. Well, my blood sugar had spiked to a very dangerous level since any stress on the body (illness, injury) can affect things. At that point, I was pretty out if it. I remember them shaking me at the ER to keep me awake and asking me cognitive questions. What it the year, your age, where are you? Who is the POTUS, etc. I heard myself telling them it was 2013 once, but I corrected myself right away. I don't even remember them putting a catheter in, which they did since they were going to put me in the ICU.
I was in the ER for hours before they moved me and when there, I was there for two days. Then I was put in a regular room for a day before I was discharged.
Anyway, I'm back on the good ole subcutaneous insulin now so I don't haven to worry about oral meds.
Once out of the hospital, it took me a minute to recuperate from the wear on my body and the fact that I hadn't eaten in a while.
I did end up getting sick again, but I have insulin now, so I avoided the hospital tis time.
In 2017, I got really suck with gastroparesis, and I was in and out of the hospital for two years with constant nausea. I'm hoping that this won't be a repeat of history. I don't think it will be, to be honest.
But I'm okay I actually feel pretty normal now, for which I am grateful. :-)
One quick note...I hope nobody has to ever be given potassium in the hospital, either by IV or in liquid form. It hurts. The IV form makes your arm feel broken and the liquid form burns your mouth and throat.
If this post came off disjointed, I apologize. My thoughts started coming out in a rush.
