How was the weekend?
It was nice! My good church friend and I went to what we consider "the" craft show in our area this weekend. Gcf has a doll she likes to dress in different outfits and this craft show has an older woman who makes gorgeous doll clothes and still sells them for only $5 (for those who've never priced doll clothes at a craft show, other vendors want $10-20 for their clothes, which usually look no nicer than this woman's work). I have a "hat lady" who's always there with her knitted hats. I bought my third one from her this weekend; I didn't really *need* it, but I like to have a bunch of color options*. And we both loaded up on homemade chocolates at the one booth that's always in the main room. It's a family business and not only do they make excellent chocolates (they do jumbo dark chocolate peanut butter cups that are almost the highlight of the Christmas season for me), they usually package everything in the cutest holiday gift bags and boxes, so it's like getting two gifts in one.
There was a HUGE craft show at one of the local schools this past Saturday; I would like to go but am too busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. But what you bought sounds nice!
* I've always said if I were rich-y rich rich rich, I would love to go to a craft show and buy the most expensive thing at each table. Or maybe go to the least populated table and buy their entire inventory. I'd also love to go to a garage sale and tell the people I'll not only give them $5000 for everything they have there, I'll also pay to haul it all away.
After the craft show, we hit up Target, then had lunch at a Mexican place I've been meaning to try. It was very, very good, not quite as great as Abuelo's (which gcf and I used to LOVE going to) but definitely a couple steps above the other Mexican places around (and there's a LOT--I can think of only two tiny towns near me that don't have a sit-down Mexican restaurant, and my slightly less tiny town has two, plus a nice fast-casual place that's better than Chipotle, IMO). Although we stuffed ourselves with chips and salsa, we still made room a bit later for Graeter's ice cream, mainly because I had a BOGO coupon for a cone. Side note: I got a kick out of the young man behind the counter at Graeter's...gcf asked for a scoop in a cone, and he asked her what kind of cone. She told him "regular" and he pointed at the display of cones--sugar cone, waffle cone, waffle cone rimmed in sprinkles and chocolate waffle cone and asked "what's 'regular' for you?".
I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, or else maybe I've never had good Mexican food.
Yesterday was church in the AM, church choir practice and pizza in the evening and watching my Browns beat your Steelers in between 😆
Yeah, yeah....
For those hosting - how are preparations coming?
I'm "hosting"...but it's just Dad and me. I found at Giant Eagle a packaged turkey breast for $11 that will be just enough turkey for the two of us. I'm going to also make mashed potatoes, stuffing and green bean casserole, and I have store bought cranberry orange relish, Hawaiian rolls and sweet potato pie, so not nearly as much work as my brave SZ TG hosts are doing.
Hey it still take time and effort to cook anything!
For anyone making anything - is your shopping done or do you still need to pick some things up?
I think I managed to get everything yesterday at Giant Eagle after choir practice but before pizza.
How much time off do you get for the holiday?
When you're not working, you get ALL the time off. Which is a good and bad thing.
