I was actually trying not to look at first. But someone pinged me on Reddit being like "Look at the vote in NoVA versus SwVA." And SwVA was terrible. It was shocking. It was the complete opposite of 2021. Voters in NoVA were showing up in droves and SwVA was just crickets. So then I was invested, lol, and all the blue areas were showing up and not nearly enough red areas were. I knew Spanberger was going to win by about 3 pm, and I was pretty sure about Hashmi for LG (I became extremely invested in that one after Youngkin and Reid were HORRIBLY racist and Islamophobic about her). I didn't know about the AG, since Jay Jones did legit disgrace himself (but not nearly as much as Mirayes did with how he's been as AG). At first when I was hearing there was 10 point splitting between Spanberger and Jones in Loudoun County, I was nervous. Then I found out Spanberger was up TWENTY EIGHT POINTS in Loudoun. I knew Fairfax and PWC would probably be even higher (they were, Fairfax was over 40 points and I think PWC was like 34 points). I knew as soon as I saw she was up 28 points in Loudoun that Jones was going to win too.
I know literally nothing about New Jersey in terms of areas you want to see or anything like that, lol, so I was HEARING it looked good for Dems, but I never expected Sherrill to win by so much! MAN, were the polls off.
And. Of course. The glorious humiliation once more of Cuomo when Mamdani handed him his ass.
And it wasn't just there! We massively overperformed in PA and GA and other places too. CA did really well!
Also, let's talk about Latino/a voters. They shifted WAY back to the left. The whole thing about Texas' aggressive gerrymandering that started this mess is based on trusting that Latinos would stay where they were in 2024. When that is NO guarantee, as we saw on Tuesday.
This isn't a shining sign that everything is perfect. The Dems who have been elected need to do well. We need to keep focusing on affordability and things like that. BUT, I think it could finally be hitting some Republicans that Trump (God willing) will never be on the ticket again, and they have not found anyone or anything, in any state except maybe Florida which I have given up on entirely anyway, that can coax out those Trump voters who never show up for anything else.
