Shameful statement made by an ignorant American. Reminds me of France, and Americans renaming food to Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast. FFS.
I've also been told -- though not recently -- that Canadians shouldn't discuss American politics here at all. Very wild take, but one I heard several times. I particularly remember someone telling me that they didn't discuss Canadian politics because they felt it wasn't their place and saying "if you actually know about Canadian politics, please join right in."
Again, I am sorry. Of course, you should participate in U.S. politics! Globalization has changed the dynamics of politics since none of us lives in a vacuum.
