we were braced for a lot of MAGA, but instead (entirely because we were in Nashville, I'm sure) it was just such a lovely place filled with great people, having a great time and being great to everyone else. I hadn't been to the US in years and it was a strong reminder that, while there are a lot of problems, there's already a lot about the US that is just fine and should be embraced instead of attacked. Nashville felt incredibly inclusive and welcoming. It felt safe. People were kind. It really reminded me that the reason I care about what happens in the US elections isn't just because I live next door, but because I honestly really LIKE the place, too.
