to Madeline to protect him from Cesar. It would not make sense for her to give him Cass. So, either she thought the twin died or didn't know there was a twin. Britt thought Cass was Nathan when she woke up in Croatia. That's how she found out.

Maybe Liesl was drugged. Faison had access to all types of weird $hit. Liesl could have been given a drug which lead her to believe it was SIDS. If you scroll down to the Background section of this article, it mentions twins having a higher percentage of SIDS. [link]
