They're mobsters. It's funny that people tend to forget this and almost expect these guys to talk about the latest trends in gardening or something. Although, to me it's completely out of character for Sonny to advocate going after an enemy's kid. That's never to my knowledge been something he's ever looked to do. And Sonny never said he'd go to Belize with her, why are they now saying he did? This show....wow!

See, I'm ok with this in theory. Mobsters are suppose to do mobster things. What I hate is the show trying to present the mobsters as the guys we should be rooting for. Or treating them like noble, romantic heroes. Or letting them skate on all the murder and mayhem they've done. No doubt Sidwell will pay for his crimes in some way. But Sonny? Nah, he can gun down a man in cold blood and it's just swept under the rug, never to be addressed again.

This is the problem with having mobsters as main characters for 3 decades on soaps. They have to show them being mobsters and doing mobster things, but also have to have connections to others and be shown as "likable" bad guys and have them get away with everything most of the time. When you look at the character of Sonny for instance, when he was first introduced, Sonny was only supposed to be on a few months and was written as such a sleaze bag, strip club owner who hooked a young girl on drugs and slept with her. There was zero intention on keeping him around. But MB was popular and they decided to keep the character and they then rehabilitated the character somewhat through his relationships with Robin, Stone, Brenda etc....

But after 30yrs of repetitive writing, people turning on him, only to change their minds until the next time something gets blown up or shot up it's sad. I loved the mob writing in the 90s and even into the 2000s but since then it's gotten worse and worse. And as much as I love mob stuff, on this show it needs to go. It's not interesting and hasn't been interesting for the better part of two decades.

Sonny killing Cates and getting away with it, is plausible if done properly. There are unsolved murders all the time and not everything has to come to light. But the way it was done, was lazy, stupid and not plausible. No mobster on a well written show would kill an FBI agent in that manner, in that location, at that time.
