the short end of the stick. I've known way too many women whose sorry exes wouldn't pay child support. And it's a big fat whopping lie that the courts will hold them responsible if they don't pay. It falls to the women to sue him into oblivion and a single mom often working 2 jobs doesn't have a lot of spare cash to hire a lawyer to pursue it and some courts won't even hear it until he's so far behind (x amount of months or so many thousands was what my aunt was told).
Oh, when it comes to child support and men not paying it. I think that's ridiculous and they need to be forced to pay or face jail time. But my point is, most of the time the mother gets custody, the husband has to pay child support plus alimony. If there are children involved most of the time, the mother gets primary custody and the husband has to pay through the nose and fight to see their kids. The wife also money + half the house or keeps the house. At least that's what I've seen. In the US I'm assuming these outcomes differ from state to state.
I'll give you an example of what pisses me off. My aunt got married, had two children and they decided to divorce about 8yrs into the marriage. During the divorce. She ends up getting 1500/month for child support, which is fine and obviously right. He then got to see them every other weekend. But when the children were getting to be adult age and the support payments were about to end, she decided to go after part of his pension and got it. To me, there is absolutely no way in hell that should be allowed.
My aunt gave up her career because her husband urged her to stay home with the kids, she didn't really need that college degree because he swore he'd always take care of them. Then guess who did the most cliche thing ever and ran off with his secretary, leaving her with two boys, no career and limited work experience to fall back on. A judge can't screw him enough, IMO.
I agree with you there. He should have to pay through the nose. I'll never understand why someone would urge someone not to have a career if they want that career. Once they're divorced she is screwed.
