The writers have an opportunity to take the character in a different direction. The roadmap is right there now that he has survived his trauma and has a chip on his shoulder. Don't get me wrong, I still believe he's a hypocritical piece of $hit, seeing as how he not only cheated as well, but knocked Sasha up! Rory already said he familiarized himself with Michael's history and his current circumstances, but plans to make the role his own.
