They were both fierce, even though underneath it all there was still love there. They were also entertaining, with a biting wit that made their arguments entertaining even though their bad behavior couldn't be condoned. Which was ok, because they paid the consequences of said behavior until things smoothed over until the next battle storyline.
Two equally strong characters in a battle of wits for dominance ... and often playing dirty ... is a staple of soaps. Neither Drew nor Willow are particularly strong and there is no battle of wits. Just Willow looking ashamed and Drew looking like he wants what he wants regardless of the consequences.
