slowly dip his toes in the water and give him some scenes that show him in some dramatic scenes. I have nothing against a character that is generally happy, and I think would be a good thing to keep that authentic part of his personality/character. However, that doesn't mean they can't give him depth, and since he is new to acting they don't have to throw him in the deep end of the pool, but I think a little conflict would be a good thing for the actor and the character.
