Has she called in a favor as the mayor? No.
Did she talk with her husband about confliction over feeling empathy for a serial killer? Yes.
It's not like this is unchartered waters. We saw this happen with Franco. It is no surprise they are doing it again with Heather. AM won an Emmy. They clearly want her back on the canvas on a regular basis and this is the route they are taking to do so.
I didn't pay him any attention until the brain tumor was removed and he stopped being so OTT. I didn't root for him until he was with Elizabeth because they were magic together.
If Laura does in fact become instrumental in getting Heather released, then that is poor judgment on her part, but it is her mistake to make same as anyone else on the show. The new writing regime have majority of the characters behaving in rather unorthodox ways. Yes. Laura speaking to Alexis and Portia's blow up happened under the new writers' pens.
