What I suspect is that Jason was told he had to do what Jagger told him to do or Danny would be killed. So Jason has gone along with it, making sure something gets in the way of Sonny getting shot.

But ... the show has made it clear for years that Jason -- the moral center of the show -- was Sonny's "enforcer" for years.
