The standard soap would have allowed the audience to view the scenes through his giving Dante first aid. At that point all other characters would remain clueless, trying to figure out who is out to get Sonny.

As a result, it is much more interesting to me that Sonny and everyone else finds out the same time we do. It bodes well for this storyline.
