And a few years later Brenda became an incredibly popular leading lady and the center of one of the most successful triangles in soap history. In fact it was Sonny's romance with Brenda that caused the writers to turn Sonny into a mobster with a heart of gold and a romantic leading man.
I don't know if the actress is coming back or not, but at some point the character will return. There is too much unfinished business for her not to.
