Any other show would need to hire younger actors to recreate events their past. On soaps you get to see the scenes that were shot 20=30 years ago. Since I'm in my late 60's, I saw many of the original scenes. for those younger, to see the current actors in scenes that have been referred to and see what they were like when they were younger adds depth to the scenes.
