to develop his character. The bounced him from thing to thing, waiting until the great and glorious day when they would be ready to give him a storyline. By the time they saw potential with Austin and Ava, his character was so anemic and underdeveloped it was too late to do anything with him.

Roger Howarth did the best any actor could do with the material he was given -- which was more holding patterns than actual storylines. The writers DIDN'T write him into a corner.
