If Nicole didn't want her to hate Eric then why tell her that Daniel died because of a drunk driver and then lie about the driver's identity. She had to know Holly would look into the truth some day. I think a better story would've been if Nicole had told Holly that her father had died in a crash with Eric's car but it had been an accident, leave out the drinking part. If Holly found out now that Eric had actually been drunk, that would've been impactful. This just feels like bad parenting/dumb writing.
