News for the week of 30-Mar-2015

Leave it to Michael Logan to ask the question on everybody’s mind. In his March 23rd interview with Eileen Davidson (Ashley), Logan broached the subject of her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills debut this season, and how she survived filming with so much dysfunction when she came off fairly normal. “I appreciate that. I can't say I've handled it the way I wanted to 100 percent of the time. I'm human. I got a little sarcastic here and there,” Davidson replied. “But I've tried to be myself. At the beginning, I just stood back and observed the whole thing going, ‘Whoa! What the hell is this?’ I'm not going to change who I am just to be on a reality show. Now, if that means I'm boring, so be it. This show is nutty! I have a hard time sleeping as it is, if I was trying to be someone on TV that I'm not, I would never be able to sleep.” The whole point of Davidson agreeing to do this reality series was to — like Lisa Rinna (ex-Billie, DOOL) — provide the balance to all the extremes in drama. “They interviewed me and my husband, Vinnie [Van Patten], and they knew how we live our lives and what matters to us and what we stand for, and they still wanted me. It was their decision,” Davidson explained of the process. “Lisa Rinna is also a woman of light. She and I talked about it and said, ‘Maybe we can do this show and remain who we really are and maybe shift things around a little bit.’ My attitude was, ‘If it's horrible and I hate it, I won't do it again.’ What's the big whoop anyway?”

As if the actual season wasn’t heinous enough, wait for the three-part reunion March 31, April 7, and April 14. The Y&R/DOOL actress previewed: “I think it's going to surprise a lot of people. It is extremely dramatic and, for me, quite difficult. One of the most difficult things I’ve ever been through.” She still isn’t sure she’ll do it again for the next season, if there even is a next season.

Portraying a bully in the new indie A Girl Like Her gave Hunter King (Summer) a new experience — not always pleasant, but important. It took her a long time to shake off the role of the bully opposite co-star Lexi Ainsworth (ex-Kristina, GH). But gave her a great perspective on the driving forces of bullying in the first place, thanks to director Amy S. Weber’s guidance of a mostly improvised series of scenes. “What's so different about this film is that it doesn't just show [bullying] from the victim's point of view, or the bully's side or the bystander’s side,” King explained in a recent CBS Soaps In Depth report. “As the director explained it, people who were [emotionally] hurt end up hurting other people because that's their defense mechanism. They don't want to feel the pain, so they wind up hurting other people to make themselves feel better. That's why we need to promote dialogue about it.” The movie opened in select theaters last Friday.

Have you come up with the answer to the mystery of who Victor’s been talking to in the confessional? You have till April 21st. Start tweeting #victorconfess. Eric Braeden (Victor) will personally call fans who correctly guess the answer. That’s right, kids, fans as in plural.

Eileen Davidson (Ashley) also talked about the supposed twist to the secret Victor uncovered that could be the end of Jack: she’s not an Abbott. Uh, big whoop. Like most of us, Davidson told Michael Logan in that recent TV Insider interview that she doesn’t get it either. “Hell if I know [laughs]. I’m hoping the writers tell me that. [Look for Y&R to air a juicy 1985 flashback involving Ashley's true paternity on April 8]. I guess it's because she loved John so deeply and wanted to think of him as her father. She's in a weird kind of denial about it. And because John didn't know, it was better that nobody else did, either. It's been so long since this was mentioned that it'll be a surprise to a big part of the audience.” Not really, Ash.
