News for the week of 01-Jun-2015

This summer: Michael unleashes Cane on Lauren, but will regret that move… Victor also will regret unleashing Marco (Fake Jack) onto the unsuspecting residents of Genoa City, namely the Newman clan… The real Jack better get back in a hurry, because the salvation of Jabot, as well as Adam and Jack’s family are at stake… Adam faces prison for a long time if he doesn’t shape up, which he won’t (as Gabriel) because it’s Adam. He racks up an enemy or two from the Abbott family who want nothing better than to see him in the slammer or at least out of the company… Sharon controls Avery’s life/death fate… Nick and Sage’s pregnant relationship isn’t without its share of drama, aka bumps on the road… Neil looms as a dark shadow over Hilary and Devon’s upcoming wedding. Like that’s gonna happen… Summer and Kyle get closer, as Lily eyes Lauren as more of a threat.

Kristoff St. John and ex-wife Mia kicked off their lawsuit against the mental health facility which housed their son Julian with an ET appearance and more media attention last week. They view the staff at Long Beach’s La Casa Psychiatric Health Facility as negligent in the reported November suicide of their schizophrenic son. They said the facility’s staff never bothered to check on him enough, even though Julian had tried to kill himself more than once before. St. John told ET’s Kevin Frazier this past Tuesday, “This lawsuit is to shed light on the inefficiency and the incompetency that happens in mental hospitals nationwide. We have a bad health care system. ... People should never die in the hospital for lack of care.” ET Online, posted by Antoinette Bueno, May 26, 2015

ET heard an earful when TPTB at the mental health facility responded to the announcement. They claimed they never got the lawsuit documents filed by Kristoff St. John yet, and made this announcement for Entertainment Tonight: “The staff and management of La Casa Mental Health Rehabilitation Center want to express their deepest sympathies to the family of Julian St. John following his tragic suicide in November 2014. La Casa has not been served with the lawsuit by the St. John family. We believe it is important to state that the California Department of Health Care Services reviewed the case and on May 5, 2015 found that La Casa was in compliance with all applicable licensing laws and regulations.”

Jessica Collins’ (Avery) tenure at Y&R is over as of this summer, supposedly storyline-dictated.

Gossip for the week of 01-Jun-2015

According to Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens in a May 28th post, his sources say co-executive producer Jill Farren Phelps is about to renegotiate her contract, due up in the fall.

Daytime Confidential also provided details on co-executive producer/head writer Charles Pratt’s proposed storyline for Avery’s exit that was turned down by the network. The storyline was supposedly so controversial that it had network heads turning apoplectic. Jamey Giddens wrote on May 28: “I can now confirm the plot twist in question would have had Avery lying about being raped by ex-husband Joe Clark (Scott Elrod). While this certainly would not have been the first time one soap character falsely accused another of an attack, those kinds of stories are generally given to troubled or confused young women (i.e. a teenage Liza accusing Jesse of attacking her on All My Children), or female villains. Avery has long been established as a principled attorney who fights for the underdog via her pro bono work for the Innocence Foundation. It's hard to imagine what would make a writer see this particular character lying about rape as a logical plot twist. I hear Y&R employees at every level of this production were disgusted by the story, leading to it being scrapped.”

Jamey Giddens then proceeded to disparage Pratt’s disrespectful treatment of other Y&R female leads, from Phyllis to Kelly. But if this means the end of Avery, all hail Charles Pratt Jr. I’ll take a shake-up on this dreadful soap over torpor any day.

If you believe Celeb Dirty Laundry and Daytime Confidential — and the jury’s out on that one — then Billy Miller (Jake/Jason, GH) might return to Y&R to take back his role from recast Burgess Jenkins. Seems fans find Jenkins a good actor but too soft for the part Miller made edgy. Miller’s GH contract is due for renegotiation at the end of October, according to CDL, too. “The rumors say we could see a bidding war go down between GH and Y&R. It would likely be a negotiation battle that neither side would want to lose.”
