The Daytime Emmys takes place next year even earlier than normal: May 1. The Creative Arts Emmys, April 29.
Maurice Benard (Sonny) gave a decent interview October 20th with Jamey Giddens of Daytime Confidential months after the online controversy surrounding leaked reports from his GH Fan Club Weekend event. Giddens got straight to the point, asking Benard to address his remarks against former head writer Ron Carlivati for not getting it. “What happened at the Fan Club Weekend was basically me having a little too much fun for my own good. Actually, when I heard it again, I would really only take back one thing that I said,” Benard explained. “… I have nothing against Ron. You’re right there were a few storylines that I enjoyed playing. He did great when he first came on, with the Nurses Ball and balancing the show, and the dialogue was great. At the end, I think he was going down a different road. There wasn’t much that I was doing and ultimately the audience speaks.”
Benard showed a grasp of what makes a successful, compelling soap for fans across the board in this interview, beyond just his own stories. He also said that every writing regime that has come in has given him something special in character development and acting excitement. As for the current, new head writers, Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman, he talked about the essential elements required to keep this soap moving forward. “As long as they continue to have balance on the show, to have depth, to write in the way that people speak, to concentrate on family and romance, I don’t think you can go wrong. This is a show heavy on history. It’s been on air for 52 years. You find out what worked then and you use it now. As far as Sonny, contrary to what people think, I’m not hard to please. Just write me as real and truthful as you can and I’ll do the rest.”
Minae Noji returns as ob-gyn Dr. Kelly Lee to help Lante conceive (a clue).
Anthony Montgomery (ex-Aaron; Star Trek: Enterprise, Single Ladies) first appears as a psychiatrist for Anna on November 6. Montgomery will play Dr. Andre Maddox, who will step up when Kevin can no longer treat Anna.
New baby for Michelle Stafford (Nina; ex-Phyllis, Y&R): She posted on Sunday an Instagram of her daughter Natalia cradling her newborn brother, Jameson Jones Lee.
Gossip for the week of 26-Oct-2015
Looks like Chad Duell (Michael) and Kristen Alderson (ex-Kiki) are just good friends now. She tweeted this on October 22nd, ending weeks of fan speculation: “Goodbye LA & to a beautiful chapter in my life. I'll always love you @duelly87 thank you for being my best friend.”
Carlos is still alive. Paul burned the body declared as Carlos to cover up the real assassin’s tracks. Carlos is also Sabrina’s baby daddy, by all rumored accounts.
Also in the rumor mill is that when Sam learns what Elizabeth did, there’s going to be hell to pay. Sam will probably beat the crap out of Liz. Check, please.
My new SoapHub commentary (posted Sunday, October 25, 2015) gives some love to Jason Thompson (Patrick), rumored to be leaving for possibly another soap.
Speaking of Patrick possibly leaving town… Is Hayden really Robin after Helena ordered facial surgery on her? A commenter named Laura Elizabeth brought this up at the end of Kim Brandow’s October 1, 2015 article for Inquisitr.
