The word “webinar” scares me. Is this more than a simple virtual appearance by two of GH’s biggest stars? In any event, if you don’t give a damn what it costs, Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Steve Burton (ex-Jason; Dylan, Y&R) will appear online October 5, 1 p.m.-2:45 p.m. PDT, via the 70x7 Marketing Group. Register here; cost is $25. The appearance also includes a Q&A. Some of the proceeds will benefit Benard’s and Burton’s charities.
Not to be outdone, Tyler Christopher (Nikolas), Jason Thompson (Patrick), and Rick Hearst (Ric) put on their own fan appearance October 25, noon-3 p.m. EDT, Syracuse, NY’s Palace Theatre, 2384 James Street, as the “Men of GH,” $100.
Laura Wright (Carly) and her husband’s Standing Sun Wines present the First Annual Harvest Blues Festival, September 27, 2 p.m.-10 p.m., 92 Second Street in Buellton, CA. General admission ($25) — or Reserved VIP Seats ($30) — gets you in to see some local country, bluegrass and blues acts, including The Caverns, Greg Felden, and Roem & The Revival. Laura Wright (Carly) talks more about her September 27th Harvest Blues Music Festival in Michael Fairman’s Soap Nation Live! Broadcast. Wright, Ryan Paevey (Nathan), Antonio Sabato Jr. (ex-Jagger; DWTS), and Greg Vaughan (ex-Lucky) were also on hand to discuss their characters, current gigs, and stories.
“Raise your hand if you knew I was Asian.” Props to Alina Adams for her September 2, 2014 Entertainment Weekly commentary on Asian actors in soaps. Parry Shen (Brad) was featured as a compelling character without the Asian baggage — a rarity in Hollywood. “But, for me, the even bigger news is that Brad is played by the Asian actor Parry Shen—and his storyline is, shockingly, not just about him being Asian! Brad being Asian and, for that matter, gay, are only parts of who he is, not his defining traits. When the character was first introduced in February 2013, his sole purpose was to help schemer Britt fake a medical condition to snare a man (as such things are also wont to be in soaps). His being Asian or gay wasn’t relevant. He was merely a plot point, which, in the long run, turned out to be a good thing.”
Kristen Alderson (Kiki) and her boyfriend Chad Duell (Michael) are lending their beautiful images in Brad Everett Young’s DreamLoudOfficial.com campaign — to help raise awareness of budget cuts in the arts and music programs of schools across the country. Alderson’s been tweeting sneak-peeks of their shoot. They’ve also been house-hunting in L.A. Good luck with that.
Gossip for the week of 22-Sep-2014
Rumors are resurfacing that Maurice Benard (Sonny) may not re-sign with GH. Check out what Amanda Austin of Celeb Dirty Laundry wrote on September 19, 2014, based on the September 29th issue of SID: “… Maurice Benard’s General Hospital contract is almost up, and the actor hasn’t renewed it yet, and is considering leaving the soap opera to work on other projects. Benard told Soaps In Depth, ‘I take the contract day to day. I’m 100 percent happy at GH, I love Ron and Frank, but I want to do other things.’ According to the magazine, at press time the Sonny Corinthos actor still hadn’t renewed his contract.”
Speculation in social networks is that Benard may cross over to Y&R, since TPTB at ABC and CBS seem to be poaching each other’s casts lately.
Franco will hand over to Ava proof that Sonny killed A.J. in cold blood — in order to keep Carly away from her ex-mob-husband. What if this works? Sonny goes to prison, never to be seen again — maybe Brenda breaks him out and they live happily ever after in hiding on the run like Luke and Laura, Carly and Jason finally fall in love this time, and bye-bye Franco, as he goes off the deep end and on a killing spree?
