News for the week of 18-Jan-2016

by Carol Banks Weber

Don’t get excited. Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) returns for January 20th’s show to usher Elizabeth to a new therapist when her son Jake runs into some trouble. Kevin and the new therapist also think it’s a nifty idea to pair Jake with the GH art therapist, Franco.

Lest you get excited about the departure of Sabrina with Carlos forever… Teresa Castillo’s only on maternity leave, out from December 15 through April. She took four months just to make sure she has plenty of time to adjust, since she already has a toddler right now. “It’s going to be interesting being away from work for that long, but I figure I’d rather be safe than sorry and give myself a chance to adjust to being in a household with two kids. [My daughter] Victoria is 1 1/2 right now, so we’re going to have two under 2,” she told Soap Opera Digest recently. Castillo also said she’s glad she didn’t have a whole heavy workload during her pregnancy like last time. “It’s actually been just right in terms of levels of emotion…I like where they seem to be going with Michael and Sabrina, and I’ll be excited to see where it picks up when I get back.”

Ryan Paevey (Nathan) returned from his work on the Hallmark Channel’s Winterfest movie, Unleashing Mr. Darcy with Cindy Busby. Unleashing Mr. Darcy premieres January 23.

Late but… Play “Seven Questions with Chad Duell” (Michael): “My character is a lot like me in real life because… I think he’s really sensitive and stuff in real life… he’s a real softie, but he has that really hard exterior… He’s pretty much opposite of me in every other respect.” Ask him to do that thing with his hair.

Gossip for the week of 18-Jan-2016

Why is everyone losing their minds? It’s called Christmas vacation, and I get one too. I’m back, though, and writing for as long as I’m able. My husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer in November, and will undergo BCG (tuberculosis vaccine) treatments for the three-year mark. If all that goes relatively well…

Btw, Chad Duell (Michael) is so much funnier offscreen (and now that he lost the ball ‘n chain). What’s goin’ on between these formers anyway? Word is… Um, check out their random affirmations.

If Morgan isn’t careful, he may end up in a puddle of his own urine.

Other paranoid thoughts… Did Jake cause these burglaries? Is the jaguar a bug?

The best part of GH ended with the Scrubs wedding last week. Viewers like me hunger for a happy ending for a change, since our real lives suck buckets. Not a dry eye in the house, either. I hear Jason Thompson’s (ex-Patrick) killing it as the recast Billy over at Y&R too. Otherwise, don’t care about Lulu and Johnny’s juvenile vendetta against Valerie (when Dante played a role in the cheating too), Olivia the tampon commercial, Elizabeth and Jake’s fake burglary crisis, Jason sleepwalking along avoiding the main subject, Laura once again being underused as the resident busybody, or much of anything left on this show. Franco’s presence in Elizabeth and Jake’s life, and the mess over at Crimson, provide some interesting notes, though. More of that.
