News for the week of 09-Feb-2015
The pre-nominees for the 2015 Daytime Emmys are out, with the usual actors in the prominent roles: Maura West (Ava), Laura Wright (Carly), Tony Geary (Luke), Tyler Christopher (Nikolas), and Jason Thompson (Patrick) lead the pack. The judging panel whittles down the pre-noms (suggestions from each show, free pre-Daytime Emmys buzz) for the final selection, to be announced March 26. The winners will receive their awards on April 26. Other than the lead actor/actress contenders, most of the rest of the names only perpetuates the stereotype that this is nothing but a popularity contest. Exceptions: Finola Hughes (Anna) and Jacob Young (Rick, B&B; ex-Lucky) for “Outstanding Supporting,” and Camryn Grimes (Mariah, Y&R), Haley Pullos (Molly), Bryan Craig (Morgan), Tequan Richmond (TJ), and Max Ehrich (Fenmore, Y&R) for “Outstanding Younger.”
ABC Daytime/GH’s PTB ask fans to choose which of the four given characters they’d love back for the May Nurses’ Ball in honor of Fan February. The options are Stefan, Courtney, Mike (Corinthos), or Serena Baldwin. Fans can vote on ABC.com, or through the social networks. Deadline: February 13.
Jason Thompson (Patrick), who has a Twitter account, and Billy Miller (Jake/nuJason), who doesn’t engage in social media, together hosted a February 5th Fan February interview live with tweeting fans, which was recorded for your viewing pleasure. You can also peruse the mentions @GeneralHospital on Twitter, under #GHFanFeb. The biggest news bandied about was Miller seemingly playing it cool about a JaSam re-pairing, saying this: “You never know, there’s so many women on the show. [c/o General Hospital blog]” Miller also assured Kelly Monaco (Sam) fans that he did like her too. Apparently, some fans felt he wasn’t as effusive about her as other co-stars. Thompson vouched for Miller as the recast Jason, “We’re in really, really great hands.” They even joked around about that awesome, kick-ass scene last week where Jake handily took Patrick down on the interrogation table with one arm, the wrestler versus the hockey player!, and getting lost in Patrick’s eyes during the 15 retakes.
The star of the new ABC comedy Cristela (Cristela Alonzo) appears Friday as assistant DA Natalia Rodriguez just for Valentine’s Day. The assistant DA will put Nathan through his paces after a mysterious break-in.
