News for the week of 02-Feb-2015

by Carol Banks Weber

The only February Sweeps story that looks promising is the mystery of Luke Spencer. Whether he turns out to have DID or to have been brainwashed by Helena all this time, the after-effects offer promising dramatic payoff for all of the Spencer family. The only other major story seems to point to Jason remembering everything before he can personally connect the dots, as three women fight to save him from Helena’s brainwashing: Carly, Sam, and Elizabeth. Helena’s no match for love, though. It’s just a matter of whose love. Johnny’s leaving, but he’s leaving a mess for Dante and Nathan. Then, there’s Nikolas, who really is torn between good and evil. He’s not pretending to go dark to ruin Helena; he’s genuinely interested in takeover. When the threat reaches his own family, he just may give in to the power completely.

Five Emmy-winning GH actresses gave away plenty of juicy gossip and laughs with Michael Logan in a January 26th TV Insider interview. Jane Elliot (Tracy), Finola Hughes (Anna), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), Maura West (Ava), and Michelle Stafford (Nina) talked openly (and not necessarily favorably) about former regimes, certain unnamed, annoying co-stars, each other, strong, kickass female characters for once, the hazards and benefits of navigating social media — not to Elliot! — and lots more. Hughes let loose on the pre-Cartini era, stating that she wasn’t even asked to return to GH until “evolved” executive producer Frank Valentini “took over.” Go check out the rest of the interview; it’s a textbook on how to do it right. Michael Logan’s the best.

On-Air On-Soaps’ Michael Fairman turned in a fairy short (for him) interview January 28, picking Jason Thompson’s (Patrick) brain about his character and his GH story as it has evolved from Scrubs to this current dalliance with Sam who may or may not go back to Jake/Jason. Thompson gamely surmised the fictional ramifications, with the underlying wish for Patrick to continue pushing forward in his own evolution. “I want to keep going down that road, and I feel like I am talking him into making these decisions and whether they are right or wrong it’s more of, ‘OK, well nothing has worked so far, so just keep going, and keep going, and we will see what kind of fallout happens, if there is one.’ When I think back through the last couple of years and how much has happened, I want Patrick to have a relationship with a psychiatrist where he can actually say all the things that he has been feeling… He just keeps dancing down this road, and I want those moments where he sits back and somebody gets him to talk for once, and he is not reacting-mode.”

Apparently, the Television Actors Union passed a regulation jacking up the wages by 7.20 percent, in effect this year. Those regulations may force TPTB at GH — and elsewhere — to make casting cuts. Celeb Dirty Laundry’s Amanda Austin on January 29 gave up some guesses as to the possible cuts, based on logic (who’s recurring) and rumors: Kristina Wagner (Felicia), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia), Teresa Castillo (Sabrina), Jeffrey Vincent Parise (Carlos), Maura West (Ava)…

If the rumor is true that Maura West (Ava) asked to exit her role, Ava just may be the “unlikely hero” in this coming week’s spoilers to go the extra mile and help save the Haunted Star guests when it goes boom. It would explain Morgan and Kiki’s devastation.

On the GH blog posted January 26th by DashboardGirl, Zachary Garred may reprise his role as Levi Dunkleman.
